1st Piece // New Bark Town // Video to Voice
[A buzz of noise comes through the PokéGear, cutting off just as fast but bringing attention to the confused face on the screen, the gray sky behind his head. He moves the view and fingers show, playing with the device before the screen goes black. Any attempts to bring it back will be ignored.
A good few hours later, there's a call from the same source- this time without a face. A dash of static threatens to cut out again, before a voice comes through. Soft, distracted, but calm.]
-hello. Could I speak to a "breeder"?
I just arrived - here - earlier today. I've already found out we can't go back... But I can't pick where to go now, just by these books. That is- how to get started, with breeding. And the walk- Does this bag really have all I'll need to get to the next stop?
[There's the sound of soft flipping, and then a quiet mumble, nearly drowned out by the hissing wind.]
It looks like a long way, with just the two of us...
[A louder thump, and volume pick up.]
And, actually- anyone with advice on taking that road in the snow? I haven't found any matches or anything.

[voice]
Or if you wanna travel in some more convenient and faster way, I'd recommend asking somebody to pick ya up with Flying Pokémon!
[voice]
Or, well- I found a friend who's coming to see me! I don't know where we're going, but it looks like it will be a while before he gets here.
[voice]
[voice]
And it's even better because it's my friend!
[voice]
Now that that's out of the way, welcome to Johto, have a fun stay, and so on and so forth! You've probably heard that multiple times anyway.
[voice]
[Various welcomes and greetings, but only a couple "formal" ones.
And maybe it's just missing his old company, but this stranger- he's kind of familiar in a way.
And that makes him curious.]
-who are you, by the way?
[voice]
... Actually, I don't think I've ever caught your name, either.
[voice]
I'm Mutou Yuugi.
[voice --> video]
[Silence. It takes him a moment to process that, since he's pretty sure the name rings a bell...]
Hang on a sec.
[He switches to video, and the feed opens to show a young, orange-haired man with marks on his face
and questionable sense of fashion, frowning slightly. Don't mind him, he's just trying really hard to recall where he's heard the name before.]Think you could switch to video for a moment?
[voice --> video]
[The would-be recognition gives him a moment's hesitation. Was he too presumptive, assuming people (beyond his misplaced friends) wouldn't know him in this strange place? Is this stranger someone he should worry about?
...no, at least for all appearances, he's not a Ghoul. It could be a trick, still, but if he's said his name, the jig's already up.
Showing himself wouldn't harm him now.
So he turns on his screen, allowing his confused frown - and face - to show.]
Like that?
Because holy crap, it looks like he was right about it!]
I knew I've heard that name somewhere! I read 'bout ya in that ass-old newspaper article. [... Crow, that's plain rude.]
You're Mutou Yuugi, one of the strongest duelists in the history of Duel Monsters!
[Yes, he's being Captain Obvious at this point, but does he care? NOPE. Way too excited to pay attention to that.]
[Ah, the confused grin. He's getting a little used to people having dramatic reactions to him, within the dueling circle. But, most of that consists of a "I must fight and beat you" ambition, not an actual praise of his abilities.
That, surely, are not that great. It's too soon to give the game much of a "history" to start with! (Well, except for the Ancient Egyptian link, but another story.)
And, most importantly.]
Boy, you must be from some really far off time from me, if that's true. I haven't been playing for that long!
a walking relict of the pasta legend dies down a bit.Good thing he's the first to mention time paradox. At least Crow won't feel weird offering that as an explanation.]
You bet I am! As far as I know, it's been several decades since the times when you dueled.
So yeah, I'm from your future!
[Someone that far removed from his time, but not world? -and he knows him?! That, could he really be that memorable, or is it just pure chance this guy looked into his history?
He'd ask, but Crow hinted something actually more important than his own future.
After all-]
And Duel Monsters is still going strong?!
[More like pure chance in Crow's case, really, although people who actually attend Duel Academia probably learn about him there...]
Sure thing! And we've got Synchro Summon and Riding Duels now, too! [He's fairly well-oriented in what they didn't have in back then, having spent a good amount of time with one duelist from the past and talked to some others.]
If blimp counts, that's been done! But, the rest of that, that has him looking like a kid just hearing about Christmas.]
Wow... If you ever have the time, I'd like to get all the details!
[THAT MAKES TWO OF THEM. Man, Christmas sure came early this year!
... except. "Details"? Should he even be talking about them with people from the past? He knows better than to mess with the history, thanks to some really nasty first-hand experiences, but on the other hand... even if Yuugi later changed something, he would be changing what would be the future of their world from his perspective, right? And that's acceptable. There again, if it would be because Crow told him something, it would be him who changed the past... Still, chances are Yuugi won't even remember anything he hears from Crow in Johto after he goes home...
Fuck, it's complicated.
And he's already babbled out everything about D-Wheels like an idiot anyway.
OH WELL.]
Sure, no problem. Ask away!
[Except, what to ask? The obvious for all is so clearly, "who am I? what's happened?" But what does that quite matter? He'd like to ask about his friends... But chances are this far off his time, the most he'd get are vague snippets.
But, the game.]
How do you go about playing now? I mean, arranging it, or tournaments, or, finding a place for... "D-Wheels"?
That ain't a problem! Everyone's got Duel Disks, so we can play anywhere, anytime! As for Riding Duels, Duel Lines have been built all over Neo Domino City and the moment Speed World 2 -- that's a Field Magic Card necessary for playing Riding Duel, by the way -- a line just for this duel is chosen automatically!
There's lots of big and small tournaments! The biggest one was probably the World Riding Duel Grand Prix, that is WRGP. The best D-Wheelers in the entire world competed in teams! That was really something.
[Does he sound excited because DAMN HE IS EXCITED.]
Re: [video]
-amazing... That's not just a worldwide Battle City, it's even bigger!
Mixed with... Sounds kind of like race cars?
[
That would be a small damper whoops how to drive?][video]
... he's not entirely sure what Battle City is (or was, most likely), but whatever that's supposed to be, WRGP was probably bigger indeed.]
Nah, D-Wheels ain't that big... They usually have two wheels. And riding 'em feels awesome!
[OH COME ON THAT'S A PIECE OF CAKE]
