1st Piece // New Bark Town // Video to Voice
[A buzz of noise comes through the PokéGear, cutting off just as fast but bringing attention to the confused face on the screen, the gray sky behind his head. He moves the view and fingers show, playing with the device before the screen goes black. Any attempts to bring it back will be ignored.
A good few hours later, there's a call from the same source- this time without a face. A dash of static threatens to cut out again, before a voice comes through. Soft, distracted, but calm.]
-hello. Could I speak to a "breeder"?
I just arrived - here - earlier today. I've already found out we can't go back... But I can't pick where to go now, just by these books. That is- how to get started, with breeding. And the walk- Does this bag really have all I'll need to get to the next stop?
[There's the sound of soft flipping, and then a quiet mumble, nearly drowned out by the hissing wind.]
It looks like a long way, with just the two of us...
[A louder thump, and volume pick up.]
And, actually- anyone with advice on taking that road in the snow? I haven't found any matches or anything.

...Yuugi?
[voice to video]
But he'll run with it- wondering if maybe someone from Battle City he didn't personally know came here, too.
But, just in case, he turns on the video to give the stranger a look.]
Yes- How'd you know my name?
Uh...well, you're not exactly unknown.
Good, he doesn't recognize me. We can start over right. Right? That's gotta be it.
Your gramps owned a game shop right?
[He'll recall the obvious details. The rest will have to come when they're on better terms...maybe.]
[That's- do people actually pay attention to stuff like that, about him? Huh...
But.]
Sorry, it feels weird, not knowing people who know me.
Especially here.
Guess there's no sense dwellin' on stuff at this time. We gotta look at the matter at hand. Geez, do you always gotta be paranoid?
[He's talking more about himself than about Yuugi at this point. Even Varon thinks this is all weird.]
And he's looking down at something to the side as he answers.]
Well, I'd just find a warm coat and head out, if I thought I'd make it anywhere.
But I have a pokémon with me too, and he looks like a baby or something. He didn't do very well our first try out, either.
If something happened to him because I rushed...
[Varon looks a bit worried. It's not unusual for him to wear his emotions on his sleeve and sometimes he's a bit too honest. He lets his tone convey his concern.]
Let's see what you got.
[Varon's Eevee pokes her head up to sniff at the Gear and tries to lick Yuugi from the screen.]
Zipper...stop that now.
[He never understood why these creatures needed to be in those tight looking balls.]
Maybe the li'l bloke's hungry.
[He scraps up a smile for the fox-like thing (Zipper, is it?) coming up, and that helps make him positive for the suggestion.]
-that's possible! I gave him some of that lunch earlier today, but, who knows what he needs.
[Here, Varon. Since you shared, here's Yuugi turning his screen so you can see the Togepi on his lap, curled up in his egg as much as he can to stay warm. And looking up curiously.]
Can you guess what he might like? All I've got so far is take him into the first grocery I find and see what he picks.
Huh. He's tiny. You might wanna make sure that he starts off with somethin' balanced...like wheat crackers to settle him but they'll have to be in tiny pieces. Don't know if it's got teeth yet. Gotta admit though, it's pretty cute.
[He's trying not to gush but it's already seen on his face he thinks that Togepi is absolutely adorable. Zipper starts her chirping at Togepi as if she's talking to the tiny Pokémon.]
Re: [video]
[He pokes him in the side of the shell. On his lap he doesn't move much, but the limited rocking gets a happy "geee-" noise. Maybe it just warms him up?
Or maybe he's answering Zipper?]
But, cutting up the food... that sounds like a normal baby thing! I'll try it out.
Yours is still a baby, like Zipper here. She's an Eevee. Accordin' to what I learned, she's got a long while yet before she can evolve. That's what the book said anyway.
I'm guessin' that you're still tryin' to figure out your place in all this. I barely know myself. If it wasn't for the wallabies back home, I probably'd be pretty lost m'self.
Best rule of thumb, if yours don't like what you give it, it's probably not the best for it, you know. A li'l trial and error never hurts and sometimes they follow your example.
Re: [video]
[Which way might it be for his? Or Varon's?
He considers, until Varon starts passing out advice, earning full attention.]
-yeah, I'm not sure. I'm a little curious this world, but traveling all over it by foot and into wild fights? And, even if I had as many eggs as possible, I don't know what I'd do with them all when they hatch.
[Since Togepi is complaining of the screen loss, anyways, he'll pick him up in one hand, to show off.]
I'll probably just stick to looking after this little guy, and any others that show up!
[How he figured out that part, well, Varon's not afraid of a little hand's on approach to animals of any kind.]
I'm thinkin' that a li'l travel never hurts the soul any. Maybe I'll learn more out there than I'll pick up from any book. Ah, you know, I just realized you don't know my name. I'm Varon. Nice meetin' ya.
[His Eevee pops up into Varon's shoulders and coos at the screen, her tail wrapping around his neck for balance.]
Re: [video]
I don't know if I'll end traveling around or finding some new place to call home, but I hope I'll get a chance to meet you in person one day.
[And only partly because Togepi seems to have taken a shine to the friendly Eevee.]
[Maybe it's not so bad starting over. It's now moving forward in a strange world that's going to be challenging but his Eevee has certainly made her way into his emotional armor.]
Zipper likes that idea too.
[She's rubbing her face with his and purring with delight.]
Oy, I know, you wanna meet your new friend, huh.
[She squeaks happily.]
If I'm anywhere nearby, we can arrange a meeting.
[Just then, Miss Mom comes into the room to call Varon's name.]
Yeah, yeah, I know. I'll get it do-
[-click-]
Re: [video]
[-ah. Too late.
...perhaps he should try and talk Togepi into another trek-try.]
[re-video]
I know, I know. You're excited about the trip. In a minute.
[re-video]
[Somebody had already turned away from his screen to dig through the handbook for advice with a new eye, when he hears the voice is back.
Gah- "Why'd he put it down?!" scramble!]
[re-video]
[Zipper chirps in response during her jumping which is causing the video to become dizzying from the movement of the bed.]
I know, I know.
[His eyes look to the Gear and sees the light blinking.]
Oh man!
[He picks it up.]
So sorry, mate. I didn't think it came back on. I'm headin' out in a few.
[re-video]
[At least it's not just him, then...]
-I'll be staying here at the Professor's, for awhile it seems.
If it helps to know.
[re-video]
[Zipper starts running in circles chasing her tail, catches it and rolls onto her back and licking it.]
I think...she needs a check-up.
[re-video]
[Compared to a dog's behavior, that is.
But who's he to say how an "Eevee" should act?]
Maybe she's restless?
[re-video]
Well, I wanna make sure she's good for the trip. I need to stop in to talk to the prof anyway for some info on hardcopy. I'm not big on usin' devices.
